If you’ve experienced or witnessed a hate crime or hate incident you can report this anonymously and confidentially through Citizens Advice Halton.

As a registered third party hate crime reporting centre, our trained staff can provide advice and tell you where to get more information and support.

What is a hate crime?

A hate crime is a criminal offence that is motivated by hostility or prejudice based upon a person’s disability, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and transgender identity.

Hate crimes can take many forms including physical attacks, threat of attack, verbal abuse and harassment.

What is a hate incident?

A hate incident is any non-crime incident which is perceived by the victim or any other person to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person’s perceived disability, race, religion, alternative subculture or sexual orientation, or against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender.

How can I report a hate crime?

If it's an emergency

Call 999

If you cannot speak, call 999 and:

  • Press 55 on a mobile

  • Or stay on the line for 45 seconds on a landline
